THE RESEARCH

Arch Biophysic’s development program has created novel synthetic biological molecules that bind to solid surfaces such as steel, titanium and glass. The resulting surfaces have enhanced biological and physical characteristics.

Potential applications include:

  1. Prevent Infection and Modify Biocompatibility

Improve the body’s ability to accept and interact with implants and other non-biologic medical devices such as catheters, prosthetic joints, coronary/vascular stents and dental implants.

Two common problems of medical implants are:

    1. They are constantly exposed to bacteria such as Staphlococcus aureus that cause infection in the body after implantation

    2. Their placement often triggers the body’s defences such as the immune system and blood clotting causing inflammation and device malfunction.
  2. Arch Biophysics proprietary molecules (ABP-0904, ABP-0912 and ABP-0918) inhibit the adherence of certain bacteria to stainless steel and other surfaces. The Company is also developing this technology to reduce the activation of the body’s defence mechanisms against medical devices.

  3. Altering Physical Characteristics of Solid Surfaces

Arch Biophysics is working on the following:

    1. Decreasing corrosion of industrial products such as pipes and tubing.

    2. Increasing the hardness of solid surfaces.
